EMOTIONS FROM THE “SERTÃO”
On 17th March 2010, Roberto Carlos came onto stage at the Ibirapuera gymnasium (São Paulo) for yet another celebration of his 50 years of music. With tickets sold out, “Emotions from the ‘Sertão’”, being more than a show that was made special on Rede Globo, was an unforgettable meeting of different generations of this musical genre. From the tradition of Tonico e Tinoco to Paula Fernandes, passing through the most-featured duos, everyone said this tradition was present that night.
Consecrated as a singer and songwriter of romantic songs, according to the maestro Eduardo Lages, director of the spectacle, “Roberto was always a person with “sertanejo” spirit. He was born inland and, when he was a child, he used to stand and admire trucks and he dreamed of being a truck driver. Therefore, he wrote “Caminhoneiro’”, he said in an interview on the eve of the show.
With hundreds of songs available to make up the special set-list, the maestro asked the invitees to select four of their favorite songs and chose whatever best matched their voice. The result was an unforgettable night, CD and DVD, which sold thousands of copies.
